Dara McNamara produced the best racquetball of his career when he won his first Open Singles title at the 39th Kilkenny Open. The Mitchelstown athlete defeated local hero Mark Murphy by 3 games to 1 in the Open Singles final.
While McNamara won the premier division prize, the rest of the tournament largely belonged to the Arklow club with Joseph Farrell winning both the B singles and the C/D Singles divisions.
Craig Young also from Arklow defeated his cousin Tyler to win the Men’s Novice Singles while Arklow veteran Jimmy Gannon won the Men’s 60+ Singles and then combined with club mate Damien Kavanagh to win the CD Doubles division. Another Arklow win came in the Men’s Open Doubles when Reece Young combined with Mark Murphy to defeat the Kingscourt partnership of Joe Dillon and Daire Gargan. In the Women’s Singles, Rossmore’s Aisling once again dominated the division with 3 games to nil victory over Antonia Neary of Arklow.
In the Women’s Novice Singles, Hannah Walsh from the Araglen Club in Co Cork defeated Anne Boland of Templeudigan 3 games to 1 in the final.
Fifty-five racquetball athletes competed in the various grades over the weekend at the 39th Kilkenny Open.
